Wipro added 888 employees in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, taking its total workforce to 243,044. The Bengaluru-based IT services company had added only 135 employees in the previous quarter, despite acquiring Mindsprint which had over 3,200 professionals.
Attrition for the quarter stood at 13.9%, marginally higher than the 13.8% recorded in the March quarter. This indicates a slight dip in employee retention.
Utilisation, excluding trainees, was 83.6% during Q1, compared to 83.5% in the preceding quarter. The company continues to focus on operational efficiency.
India's fourth-largest IT firm reiterated that it will not hire fresh graduates from college campuses for now. In Q1, no freshers were recruited as the company still has a pool of about 7,000 freshers from last year's hiring.
“We didn't hire anybody so far, we have a good inventory of freshers, about 7,000 people last year. And depending on the demand environment we will look at it,” said Saurabh Govil, Wipro’s Chief Human Resource Officer, during the Q1 press conference. He declined to give any outlook on fresh graduate hiring targets.
